MUSMA museum narrates the history of Italian and international sculpture, from the end of the 1800s up to today.

The only cave-museum in the world and main Italian exhibition space entirely dedicated to sculpture, this unique museum is located in Palazzo Pomarici, also known as Palazzo delle Cento Stanze (17th century), a stunning building overlooking the Sasso Caveoso district.  The exhibition features works donated to the museum’s promoting entity, the Zétema Foundation of Matera, by artists, collectors, galleries and art critics.  On the lower floor, works are arranged in three courtyards, inside seven caves excavated in the rock, and in several rooms named “Sale della Caccia”.  Upstairs, works are displayed in 10 rooms.  Discover the amazing combination of centuries-old, rock caves with important contemporary sculptures.
