The museum offers insights in the life and culture of Matera peasants until the 1950s, when the inhabitants of the ancient districts were forced to move to the modern city neighbourhoods.

The Museum Workshop of the Peasant Culture is an ethno-anthropological exhibition of extraordinary interest, starting from its structure, which is made up of several residences, connected for exhibition purposes.   It covers an area of more than 500 square meters, making it the largest museum of its kind in Southern Italy.  Recently a first artistic workshop has been activated, aimed at creating graphic-pictorial materials, decorating ceramics and processing clay and wood.

Explore this museum and travel back to ancient places and crafts of a past that has never waned.
